In 2006 and 2007 WPEG was focused on the environmental angle to slow down the wind issue in CV. You know, study the birds, bat, turles etc. The sound issue had not surfaced yet. Everyone was complaining about comflicts but nothing concrete was being done, nor did they wanted to atatck it becuase some where afraid it would be a real nasty issue. YUP!!! We had hired an expensive environmental attorney (Man, there is another real untold story!!! A REAL interesting story!) She suggested we should use a "thousand small cuts" to make the wind companies and conflicted town officials bleed to death in the fight. I thought we needed a State delivered nuclear warhead! Nobody was really addressing the conflcits so I asked our attorney for a pathway which I could pursue to address the conflicts of interest which I thought were the REAL root of our problem while the group focued on the environmental issues. She suggested the NY AG's Public Integrity Unit but reminded me she was not a litigator. She faxed me this form, and myself and a few other CV folks sent these forms to the AG's office with long letters attached about our ethics plight. Note the date of 1/15/07. Note I didn't receive a response till May 2007, 5 whole months! Cuomo was probably trying to figure out how to put out this fire especially since Aubertine was involved. Then I wrote or emailed a second letter, and more emails after that to the NY AG Website. Gee that would be the same one you can use today if you get my drift! Note the date of Oct, 2008 of the reponse to it. Note also they are form letters that are virtually the same. So I could see the hand writing on the wall (or on the paper) and figured it would probably have to get real political and we would have to wait until Andy ran for Gov. then turn up the heat. So I spent that time researching, documenting, and digging through town records, and researching local and State ethics laws and how this could all applied to CV. I though in the mean time I could put together a case and start with the Jefferson County DA Cindy Intschert (that will be the next post). The documents were getiing thicker and thicker. Sure enough in 2009 things started happening with the AG (another story) and in 2010 about four months before the 2010 NY Gov. elections was when they finally seriously responded with the phone call and meeting described in previous post below. I figured we had 4 months and had to strike while the iron was hot.
Lesson: Just as a friend said, most politicians are nothing more than f-----g! VOTE COUNTERS!!!
When election time comes around they listen and they are very good at counting votes...so remember Cuomo is going to run for President. Anything we could learn from this...eh!!!
This was the start of the process.
Good job Art. You just set yourself up for a civil lawsuit should any harm come to the individuals who signed the DA letter or participated in the AG investigation.
ReplyDeleteRemember these people live here year round and unlike you are at risk for retaliation. You were told before that discretion is the better part of valor and it would serve you well to listen to that advice.
You might just get someone killed or seriously injured with the loose cannon you have attached to your face.
I for one hope the committees do not take any advice from you. It would be a huge mistake. The wind lawyers would have a field day with you and your theories.
So you and some others were taking the DA and AG approach. At the time, at least according to you, those people active in WPEG (and active members have changed over the last few years) were looking at other wind issue...including bats, birds, sound, health and safety. And exactly WHY did those actions not contribute to the growth of the antiwind climate in our town? Frankly, I think without some of these efforts, we would not have seen the change in town government that is currently addressing critical issues in CV, including ethics(although clearly not to your standards-an opinion to which you are entitled). Not everything can be solved at once....it is a process. But I guess that is not your line of reasoning. I give full credit to ALL the people involved in this conflict - without ALL of them, including you, we would have turbines spinning today. If you passionately believed that your solution was the only solution, why did you or a supporter not run for office,because that IS where the decisions are made. All politics are local.
ReplyDeleteDid Art say his letter could be foia? Then finding out who joined him in the never proven complaint could be easily determined. Would that be filing a frivolous false complaint. Thanks for bringing this up Art. Yes, you do have the stories, don't you.
