Oppose Article X????

Here is the headline from a post on the Cape Vincent JLL blog.

"Congressman Bill Owens joins Russell, Blankenbush and Ritchie in opposing
Article 10 industrial wind siting in the Golden Crescent and Thousand Islands regions. "

WOW...that's  great!!!  But JLL forgot the Jefferson County legislators and NYS Assemblywoman Russel too.    Too bad our Cape Vincent Town leaders won't do the same.as these other leaders who seem to get it.   Even when I twice handed our board  last fall a revised copy of the County legislators resolution to use for Cape Vincent to oppose Art. X they refused !!!    Instead we get the recent statements that the Art. X rules are fair and impartial!!!   Maybe Mr. Wiley should speak to our town board because it seems they are becoming a  minority among important leaders in the North Country.

  1. If not for your town board taking Article X head on I assure you Mr. Owens would never have come out of the closet in an attempt to save his political ass and help to get rid of the embarrassment of Cape Vincent and
BP. A big step. A powerful Democrat supporting the efforts of a 100% Republican local administration. Instead of constantly chastising your highly supported local officials you should admit to their successes and get over your failures. You are living in the past, move on.

If the community had listened to you and ignored Article X proceedings they would all be out in some field flatter than pancakes, clutching their protest signs, after having been run over by a BP steamroller building a road to a wind turbine. Many in Jefferson County political circles are calling the Owens comment to the PSC a another big blow for pro wind in Cape Vincent and a big plus for the Thousand Islands. Mr. Pundt, It is not too late to join the hundreds of others who are making comments to the PSC.

  2. If you look on the PSC comment website you will see that I have commented. However, it was not the typical begging for mercy from the State to save the 1000 Islands.

I wrote about the flaws of the Art X law and how it is direcrly contrary to other laws that give communities the home rule powere and rights to land use decisions.

Look at NY Town Law Art.16 section 272 about comp planning and zoning. Art X is in direct contradiction to those statutes.

    And your comment:

"Instead of constantly chastising your highly supported local officials you should admit to their successes and get over your failures. You are living in the past, move on."

I think you are significantly jumping the gun here. First of all whether they are highly supported has nothing to do with it whatsoever. This is not highschool. Slavery was highly supported at one time, so was the suppression of a woman's right to vote. It isn't about what is popular. Popular supporthas some time been horribly wrong!

Besides it will be more than a year most likely before we really know if the town has been successful to keep wind development out of CV. Keeping in mind that a FEW turbines would not be a success!!!

And your veiw of history is distorted. There have been times in the past where I have applauded the board on certain things, related or not related to wind.

For example if you look back you will clearly see I recognized the town officials performance at the Oct. 23rd meeting where they hammered BP. But then a few weeks ago the turn around and say the Art X rules are fair and imbalanced. I fail to see how rules that remove your rights are fair and imbalanced! But I guess that is how you view it also!

If you have an overriding need to be part of the "group with the popular support ", that is your probelm not mine. I suggest you read Janis about "Group Think"

  3. Mr. Owens, thanks for speaking out to the PSC, but in all honesty, you're a little late.

where were you when citizens asked for your input before this legislation was approved.
