The draft of the new Cape Vincent zoning law is available on the Town of Cape Vincent Website.
One thing I find really baffling is that we have been told over and over that we can't prohibit industrial wind turbines and all their negative impacts because that would be irrational and radical ...but apparently it is ok to prohibit hydro fracking for natural gas?????
After all this you can't prohibit anything hoopla....you have got to be kidding me!!!!!
Now I am not opposed to prohibiting natural gas hydrofracking in CV, that to would be a disaster for our beautiful community, but why aren't we using setback zoning to restrict hydrofracking like we are for industrial wind? Why does industrial wind get a pass and even a place on our zoning map where it can be developed?
Listed under prohibited uses in the new CV zoning law on page 13.
"Exploration and extraction of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons. This includes, but is not limited to, hydraulic fracturing or current state of the art extraction processes."
We get allowances for solar and wind in our new zoning, but no hydrofracking for natural gas. Geee that almost smells like a "green" agenda.
Wait a minute I thought we couldn't outright prohibit anything in our zoning??????
A POWERFUL WAY TO FIGHT FRACKING

As the battle continues over fracking, the gas companies claim that they represent a majority of landowners. We beg to differ. We are sure there are many more landowners who believe that our land is worth protecting from industrialization and that we are, first and foremost, stewards for our land. We refuse to be bullied into trading short-term energy profit for long term environmental and community destruction.
Won't you join us?
Visit the site, go to the join us! page and add your land to the list/survey so we can show the government, politicians and gas industry that we stand together, united in our commitment to keep our lands frack-free. All property, in every part of NYS, and of every size should be included.
And please, spread the word by forwarding this message to everyone you know in NYS. Help us change the conversation about gas drilling. Let us show the world how much New York's landowners love their land. Thank You!
