Part of the scenic Cape Vincent Village waterfront.
Part of the ...not so scenic... Cape Vincent waterfront.
The village can't be serious by allowing this new structure on the
right side of the photo. It makes me wonder once again if
anyone in the Village (or Town) zoning administration is
awake!!!
No copyright on this photo...copy it all you want and send it to the Village govt. and zoning dept.!!
Now keep in mind this is one of the main entrances to the Village and Town where many visitors coming in on the Horne's Ferry from Canada and around the world get there first impression of Cape Vincent. Oh...and one of the other entrances to town along Rte. 12E has a state prison!
Of course then you go to Clayton and see the beautiful new
hotel and adjacent waterfront pavilion. Any more questions as
to why Clayton has a booming tourist economy?
Here is a quote from the new 2012 Village / Town Joint
Comprehensive Land Use Plan...
"Discourage: Development on the river front that restricts access and views of the river. Large, expansive building that would block and limit visual access to the river "
Ummmmh...I think the Village just violated it's very own comprehensive plan!!!
Knock knock...HELLLOOOOO!!!!
The Comprehensive Plan is just a guideline, not a document to be taken seriously by planning officials.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, its not fair to compare the Cape to Clayton; totally different set of dynamics involved in the two economies. However, if you are going to compare them ,how can you justify approval of the Hotel in Clayton ( which in my book is an expansive tall building which seriously blocks the view of the river on a large scale) ,and then criticize the much smaller commercial building on the waterfront in Cape Vincent? Your criticism of the Cape project is justified, but the comparison is not consistent
I agree with you that Captain Jack's is a dump and the abandoned boat house in front of it is a blight. Thank goodness that people with foresight have used the exact footprint of an old delaptated bldg. and done a favor with a new modern development.
ReplyDeleteHey, the majority of Clayton's village waterfront is blocked by large buildings..?????
ReplyDeleteWho wants to promote tourism anyway?
