Anti- Wind Mrs. Burton???...Really, Did You Write A Letter About The Wrong Town???
Like many of you I saw Mrs.Burton's letter in the WDT. Here is a quote out of that letter. I disagree with the thrust of her letter, and to me it doesn't matter if someone wrote it for her. But even she is missing the point.
"Summer residents were convinced to change their electoral vote to Cape Vincent by anti-wind people. Today our town board, Planning Board and Zoning Board are all run by non-native citizens of Cape Vincent who are against wind."
But Really Mrs. Burton? Anti-wind is running your town? Well that is a really interesting perspective.
Where are all these truly anti wind people? Mr. Hirschey our supervisor has been on TV saying he is not against wind only the improper placement of turbines. My personal experiences with Mr. Hirschey don't lead me to believe he is truly anti wind and he once had a small wind turbine on his property. Have you talked face to face with Mr Hirschey? Instead of insulting all the seasonal people that actually make your town viable and support its economy and tax base...maybe you should talk to Mr Hirschey, you might convince him to put up a few turbines. Mr. MacSherry the head of the planning board has made a number of statements favorable to wind development, like not having a wind law that is too restrictive to wind. Mr. Burns on the planning board, at least at one time (don't know about now) had a lease with Acciona. Mrs. Bourcy an alternate on the planning board...well we all know her past support of wind.
Mr. Cardarelli an alternate on the planning board has made statements to me personally that he is in favor of wind. I have never heard Mr. Bragdon or Mr. Schneider on the TB ever say they were truly anti wind. I don't know where Mr. Byrne stands, since he has been very quiet on the issue. Mr. Orvis certainly isn't anti wind. Mrs. Chase on the ZBA had or has a proposal for a community wind project on or near her property. Mr. Bender who is our Zoning Enforcement Officer voted in favor of wind turbines as utilities when he was on the ZBA
.
The zoning committee lawyer is advising that you can't ban wind turbines because of the way they look. The zoning committee and the TB are running scared of NY Article X and I'm not sure where that will end up since BP is not going to be happy with a restrictive law OR a ban. So how far will these people go to appease A-10? In the elections you talk about there was NO publicly declared anti wind candidate or anti wind platform. In fact a case could be made the election wasn't even really about wind and certainly not about true anti wind, but about ethics. I went to the candidtaes night and hardly anybody talked much about wind. WPEG has made public statements that they are not anti-wind. In fact WPEG is just a ghost at this point. And even if WPEG re-enegized over turbine placement, do you really think they would take on Mr. Hirschey and a board that is mostly former WPEG members? They were the nearest thing to an anti - wind group..except for one very important thing...they are NOT ant-wind. Actually you and your husband and the pro wind people should join WPEG because the VFW group is a political LOSER for your cause, especially run by Marion Trieste!!! The Zogby poll didn't show those "rich" seasonals were anti-wind since they were something like 63% of the respondents and it came out more favorable to wind than not.
So where are all these anti-wind people that are dominating the town???? Are you sure you wrote your letter about the right town? You pro wind people still don't get it do you? You are going to go completely down in flames following a defunct knot head old out of power govt. and their pro wind supporters and ethics issues.
Actually your best hopes for wind are with the new govt. if you look at the people I listed above and their beliefs and the support they have. You really don't get the politics do you? Mr. Hirschey and this govt including the land committtes could put up 100 turbines and Hirschey's rabid supporters will justify it somehow. They will follow him right over the wind cliff if they have to. The excuse will likely be...well he did all he could do...it was Article X it's not his fault...he had to appease Article X and he had to represent EVERYBODY in the town.
Mrs. Burton your letter is badly out of touch with the political reality in town.
Every time I put something really anti wind out there on my blog like wanting to outright prohibit wind both supposed "anti- wind " blogs and their commenters go ballistic on me for that position. Since they are the information arm of the Hirschey govt...that should tell you something. There are definitely some true anti-wind people in CV like me but I don't think they control our govt. that seesm like a real stretch to me.
In fact I'll tell ya what Mrs Burton, let's you and I do a llittle test.
How many of you people on the town govt. are truly anti wind?
Please come to this blog in a post or a comment and declare your anti wind position. Mrs Burton is waiting. My blog is completely open for you to answer....Let's see who responds and we will keep count?
Instead of blaming the truly anti wind people which you apparently think control our govt...maybe you should talk to some of them. You might find more friends than you think!!! But don't waste your breath on me.
If you want somebody to blame for being anti wind, blame the County that just officially voted to oppose wind turbines in the lake...hard now to justify them on land !!!
Mrs. Burton....are you SURE you wrote that letter about the right town?????
